Startling new research shows a possible link between spinal adjustments and increased fertility in some women.

"It lets couples who have been infertile or couples who are planning on having a family (have) hope," explains Dr. Madeline Behrendt. She led a study of fifteen women who struggled with infertility, some for more than a decade. Each went to see Dr. Behrendt for a variety of problems, not for infertility. Of the fifteen women, fourteen became pregnant. "The chiropractor indentifies spinal distortions, which are called subluxations, and once they were detected and corrected, the fertility function improved," Dr. Behrendt explains. She says there's a link between chiropractic care and fertility because the nerves to your reproductive system run through your spine. She says that when the back is misaligned, the nerves misfire and cause a hormone imbalance, which can prevent a woman from getting pregnant. Dr. Behrendt is now on a mission to see more research dollars spent on the benefits of chiropractic care and infertility.

Chiropractic is also important for expectant mothers. Never impulses into the womb will play an integral role in the child's progress. Structurally, the child is at rest inside the pelvis cavity. Spinal distortion, pelvic rotation, and subluxation can all have a negative effect on not only the likelihood of conception but also on development and delivery. In studies conducted within the medical profession, it was shown that women who received chiropractic adjustments in their third trimester of pregnancy were able to carry and deliver children with more comfort and that those incorporating chiropractic adjustments during their pregnancy needed half as much painkiller during delivery.
